Detail Card Wording

Detail cards are also called insert cards and enclosure cards. So, how do you word your detail card? The wording depends on the purpose of the card. First, let me break down the different types of detail cards.

  • Reception Card
  • Accommodations Card
  • Itinerary
  • Website Card

Once you know which type of card you’ll need, you can start to figure out your wording.

Reception Card

If your wedding reception is a different venue from your ceremony, it’s proper to include a separate reception card. This card should have a request line just like your wedding invitation wording and RSVP card wording. Next, it should have the time of the reception. If there’s a break between your ceremony and reception, write out the time in word form. If there’s no break, you can use “immediately following the ceremony”. Then, include your venue name with the city and state.

For example,

Please join us for dinner and dancing
immediately following the ceremony
Lowndes Grove
Charleston, South Carolina

Accommodations Card

If you have a lot of out-of-town guests, it is common to have a block of hotel rooms available to your guests at a discounted rate. Use the following wording on your accommodations card followed by the names of the hotels and their contact information.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the following hotels.
Please book by May 14 in order to receive the discounted rate.

You also need to tell your guests how to take advantage of the discounts. This might mean putting the group code under each hotel or saying “Please mention the Smith/Jackson wedding when making your reservation.”

Wedding Itinerary

Itineraries are common with destination weddings or for weddings with other hosted events throughout the weekend such as welcome cocktails or a farewell brunch. Each event should be listed as follows in chronological order.

Welcome Cocktails
Friday, June 27, 2022
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
The Rooftop Bar

Website Card

It has become more common to include all of your wedding details on your website an eliminate the extra cards. If you choose to do this, include a small website card.

Since it’s frowned upon to include registry information with your invitation, this is a little hack to point people in the right direction. Without even saying anything about your registry, guests will know to visit your website to find it if they want to.
